A little something for everyone...?
These short, three to six week mini-courses are designed to help introduce teachers to constructing instructional web materials and to introduce teachers to the issues in teaching online. Are the courses sequential? Only 401 and 402 are sequential.
Still not sure?... C'mon give it a whirl. With any luck, you'll at least be better informed about what you may be getting yourself into when your institution queries you about teaching online, and you will also have completed some continuing education units (CEU's) to apply to your professional development requirements in the meantime.
ED 400X ---Teachers in this course will produce ONE web-based curriculum product. Want to take a peek? Use the login ID or name--classmember (lower case letters), and the password--guest (lower case letters). XX -CEUs
ED 401X --This course is designed to introduce teachers to online teaching. How is it different from teaching in the classroom? What is it like to be an online student?
XX-CEUsED 402X --Teachers in this course will begin construction of an online course using a free, course management system. Teachers will integrate calendars, communication and assessment tools such as bulletin boards and online quizservers into their online courses. XX-CEUs Any prerequisites??? Well, not really, except you should be comfortable using a word processing application, using email, and conducting internet searches using a web browser. If not, there are a lot of FREE online tutorials out there to help you get started?
Are there any required books or materials? Not at this time. However, you may want to purchase a WYSIWYG web page software application such as Adobe PageMill or Claris Homepage in order to construct your web pages. Though you can certainly write HTML, I don't plan on spending time showing you how to do that. The requirements for each course are listed in the sample pages directory.
