Welcome to Meta-learningtools.com. My interest in developing this web site stemmed from my readings in metacognition in education. There appears to be some general consensus amongst educators that students who employ metacognitive strategies successfully tend to be more successful students.

Secondly, with the exponential growth in the WWW, and the fact that most web courses are explanation-heavy like the transmissive model they embody, there appears to be little support to query students about the general strategies they use as they complete web course activities. As a result, I've begun construction of some web-based tools that teachers can integrate into web courses or curricula that act as meta-learning tools. These tools are primarily process tools in that they provide a means to scaffold student learning with the hope that students will learn to naturally ask questions to monitor and regulate their own learning as they undertake any learning activity.

Next, the tools that are available on this site are free. I have only four stipulations if you choose to use them. They are:

  1. You may not charge students or other teachers for the tool's use.
  2. You must leave the HTML comments I've included in the HTML coding so that Meta-learningTools.com gets credit for the tool.
  3. You must leave the copyright © registry mark including the "http://www.meta-learningtools.com" on the tool.
  4. Though I am actively pursuing some research into the use of tools and their effectiveness, I hope that you will share any results you've had employing the tools with me.

Finally, please check back from time to time. I may have some other tools or resources of interest.
